The Vision

Since the beginning, True North has been determined to create a culturally relevant, safe environment where the un-churched can come and hear the life changing truth that Jesus loves them and died for their sin. We want to be a place that mirrors the purpose and personality of Jesus Christ. We want to send the message that lost people matter to God. Our plan is to invest in the lives of unbelievers and invite them to a safe place to meet Jesus. The belief is that if the church were to look like Jesus, people would be as attracted to the church as they were to Him.

What's Working

After a whirlwind six weeks of preparation, True North started Worship Gatherings on Thanksgiving Sunday, 1999 with 60 people in attendance at a temporary rented facility. We had no children’s ministries for the first year, and only a nursery for infants the second year! Yet God was faithful – The purpose and personality of Jesus was evident at True North and people were attracted. Most notably, people who hadn’t been to church in years (if at all) were beginning to come and experience a relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Challenge

When faced with financial needs, most churches would resort to a “capital campaign.” The pastor would stand up on Sunday mornings and make earnest pleas from the pulpit for people to give money.

There are a number of reasons we, at True North, are reluctant to use a typical capital campaign to raise needed funds:

1.   Money is a family matter for our partners and regular attenders. We do not want the first impression of our guests to be that “we always ask for money.” It could turn them away from our real message (that they matter to God)

2.   Messages on stewardship are important (even in the foyer environment), but they are best presented away from the context of a capital campaign. Otherwise, they seem manipulative. People would miss the message that stewardship and giving are key elements of our relationship with Jesus Christ.

3.   Typical capital campaigns ask members for 3-year pledges and, in return, present a 3-year plan for the use of those funds. We cannot, in good conscience, predict exactly what our needs will be three years from today. God is moving much more quickly than that.

Our Solution

We have created a fund called The Key. This fund is the place for capital giving at True North. It is for giving “over and above” regular giving.

Every year, The Key publishes a list of projects for the year. Those projects will change from year to year, as God leads.

What Never Changes

Like a mutual fund, the projects inside the fund will change over time. What will not change is the fund’s purpose: to provide needed tools for True North to partner with you in our mission: Leading people you know into a growing relationship with Christ.

Tool  [tool]

n.  1. device for doing work   2. something used as a means of achieving something   3. something used for a job

We Need You

Please understand: we do not need you for your money. We really don’t have to have your money for these projects. If everything that has taken place in past years is of God (and we believe it is), then we also believe He will supply the resources.

But we still need you. We need you for two reasons:

Reason #1

We need you because we need every member of the Body of Christ working together, using their unique gifts to lead others into the Kingdom of God.

·                                 We need people with the gift of service to serve.

·                                 We need people with the gift of leadership to lead.

·                                 We need people with the gift of giving to give.

To respond properly to the enormous (and exciting) task God has set before us we need every person and every spiritual gift working together, investing every resource to help us accomplish our purpose.

Reason #2

More importantly, we need you because we care. We care about you. We care about your heart more than we care about your money. (If you don’t believe that, then please, don’t invest a nickel in The Key).

We believe that lost people matter to God. It’s why we do what we do – it’s why we get up in the morning. But we also believe that you matter to God. We believe that the Heavenly Father is as concerned with your heart as He is with the heart of the people we are trying to reach.

Jesus said that where our treasure is – that’s where our heart is.

Your decision to serve God by making an investment in The Key could make the difference for someone who is far from God in finding their way to Him. But even more, a decision to serve God in this way is an excellent way to keep the concerns of God’s heart in the center of your heart.

Your Response

You may wonder how you should respond to this...The most important part of your response is these three keys...

These keys will unlock your heart to what God wants to do in and through you!

Re-surrender

Listen

Obey

All your stuff.

Go before God:

Everything that I have is really yours! You have given it to me to manage.

(1)*

Not to the voice of guilt, not to the voice of fear.

 Listen to God.

Pray. What would you like me to do?

He may say give a lot,

He may say give something, or

He may say do nothing!

(2)*

Whatever God says…

Do what He

asks of you.

(3)*

*Scripture References:

(1)

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 (TLB)... "Everything in the heavens and the earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. Riches and honor come from you alone, and you are the Ruler of all mankind; your hand controls power and might, and it is at your discretion that men are made great and given strength."

(2)

John 10:27 (NIV)... "My sheep listen to my voice; and they follow me."

(3)

John 14:23 (NIV)... "Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him."
